Remarkable Dolphin Videos
January 30th, 2013

In the last couple of weeks, two amazing videos were captured that show some really interesting dolphin behavior.

The following clip shows a massive “dolphin stampede” witnessed by tourists aboard a whale-watching ship off the coast of California.

This next video only features one dolphin, but I think it is even more amazing. The unfortunate creature has some fishing line and a hook stuck around its fin. The line is twisted around so that it is restricting its movement. The dolphin approaches a group of scuba divers, apparently seeking their help. Watch the patient dolphin as one of the divers removes the line.

We are lucky to be able to see dolphins frequently when we visit the coast here in Florida, but I’ve never witnessed anything like either of these spectacles, either above water or below. Have you ever dived with dolphins, or seen a dolphin stampede?

A scuba diver in Jupiter, Florida discovered what may be a WWII-era plane submerged in 200 feet of ocean water. The amazing find unfortunately seems to be a haven for invasive lionfish.

T-Shirt Tuesday: Zeeland Divers Holland
June 1st, 2010

It’s nearly time for the cuttlefish breeding season in the Dutch waters of Zeeland. Each spring, the animals travel from the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea to the Oosterschelde to mate. The cuttlefish, called inkvis or sepia’s in Dutch, are related to octopi and squid. The cuttlefish season marks a high point in the excellent diving opportunities found along the south portion of the Netherlands in the Zeeland province.

In honor of the upcoming duikgekte, or diving craze, over the sepia’s, this week’s highlighted t-shirt for scuba divers features a logo-style design including an iconic image of a cuttlefish. Most available t-shirt styles feature the logo in the pocket area of the front and a full-size print on the back of the tee. Zeeland Divers Holland is made for anyone who has enjoyed the great scuba diving and marine life to see in Zeeland!

T-Shirt Tuesday: 3x Stylized Marine Life
March 30th, 2010

This week’s highlighted t-shirt designs are all stylized illustrations of marine life. Each design is made up of simple lines or silhouettes done in shades of blue. These make great gift ideas for scuba divers or anyone interested in marine life. First up we have Stylized Dolphin shown on a long sleeve dark tee.

Next up is Dolphin Ring shown on a v-neck shirt.

Petition to save Sea Turtles
February 18th, 2009

Defenders of Wildlife have a campaign to encourage the National Marine Fisheries Service to stop longline fishing. Longline fishing kills and injures sea turtles and countless other marine life. Click here to save sea turtles and stop longline fishing.

Enjoy this video of scuba diving with a sea turtle from julesnene’s photostream on Flickr. I’ve only seen a sea turtle while diving once, in Egypt, and it was amazing. I hope to see many more on future scuba dives.
